Introduction
Crisis situations such as disasters, conflicts, epidemics, and sudden traumatic events place individuals and communities at high risk of acute psychological distress. This training course equips participants with advanced knowledge and practical skills to deliver effective, ethical, and timely emergency mental health interventions.
The course responds to the growing global demand for trained professionals who can operate confidently in high-pressure environments while providing psychosocial and mental health support. Participants will explore evidence-based approaches to crisis response that prioritize safety, dignity, and psychological stabilization.
Emphasis is placed on understanding the psychological impact of crises across different populations, including children, survivors of violence, displaced persons, and first responders. The course integrates clinical, community-based, and systems-level perspectives for comprehensive emergency mental health action.
Participants will gain hands-on knowledge of crisis intervention models, psychological first aid, trauma-informed care, and referral pathways. The training highlights coordination with emergency services, humanitarian actors, and health systems to ensure continuity of care during and after crises.
The program also addresses ethical challenges, cultural sensitivity, and staff wellbeing in emergency mental health work. Participants will learn how to manage secondary trauma, maintain professional boundaries, and ensure accountability while operating in complex and unstable settings.
By the end of the course, participants will be prepared to plan, implement, and lead emergency mental health responses that save lives, reduce long-term psychological harm, and support community recovery. The course strengthens resilience, preparedness, and leadership in crisis mental health interventions.
