Course Introduction

Corporate lending involves complex credit structures, significant exposures, multiple facilities, negotiated terms, collateral arrangements, financial covenants, guarantees, and long-term relationships between financial institutions and business borrowers. The Corporate Lending and Credit Portfolio Audit Training Course provides a comprehensive framework for auditing corporate credit from initial origination and due diligence through approval, documentation, disbursement, monitoring, restructuring, impairment, recovery, and portfolio reporting.

The course examines how auditors can evaluate corporate credit policies, risk appetite, lending authorities, underwriting standards, relationship management controls, and credit approval processes. Participants will learn how to assess borrower financial statements, cash-flow forecasts, business plans, debt-servicing capacity, industry risks, ownership structures, related-party exposures, and other information used to support corporate lending decisions.

Corporate credit risk requires auditors to look beyond individual loan files and understand the broader structure of borrower and portfolio exposures. The programme therefore focuses on facility-level and portfolio-level techniques for identifying concentration risk, connected counterparties, covenant breaches, excessive leverage, deteriorating financial performance, refinancing dependency, sector exposure, currency risk, and other indicators of emerging credit deterioration.

Particular attention is given to collateral, guarantees, financial covenants, security documentation, valuation, collateral coverage, and credit risk mitigation. Participants will develop practical approaches for testing whether security arrangements are legally effective, appropriately valued, properly monitored, and accurately reflected in credit systems and impairment assessments.

The course also addresses impairment and expected credit loss, credit classification, watchlists, restructuring, forbearance, non-performing exposures, recoveries, write-offs, and management judgments. Participants will learn how to evaluate whether deteriorating corporate exposures are identified promptly, appropriately classified, adequately provisioned, and effectively escalated through credit governance structures.

Modern corporate lending increasingly relies on data analytics, digital credit platforms, automated monitoring, integrated financial information, and sophisticated risk models. The course therefore incorporates technology, data quality, model risk, continuous monitoring, fraud detection, and emerging corporate credit risks. Through practical exercises and an integrated audit case study, participants will strengthen their ability to identify credit weaknesses, assess potential exposure, document evidence, and communicate actionable audit recommendations.
