Course Introduction

Community leadership in crisis and disaster preparedness is essential for building resilient societies capable of responding effectively to emergencies. This course equips participants with the knowledge and skills required to lead communities before, during, and after disasters.

The program explores the nature of crises and disasters, including natural hazards such as floods, droughts, earthquakes, and human-induced emergencies, and their impact on vulnerable populations and local development systems.

A strong emphasis is placed on leadership roles in preparedness planning, early warning systems, emergency coordination, and community mobilization to reduce disaster risks and minimize loss of life and livelihoods.

The course also examines how local leaders can strengthen disaster risk reduction frameworks, improve coordination with government and humanitarian agencies, and build trust within communities during emergencies.

Participants will explore practical tools for risk assessment, contingency planning, emergency communication, and resource mobilization to enhance community readiness and response capacity.
