Course Introduction

Community Development for Migration and Displacement Contexts is a specialized course designed to equip practitioners with the knowledge and skills needed to support migrants, refugees, and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in rebuilding their lives and communities. It focuses on inclusive, rights-based, and sustainable development approaches.

The course explores the complex dynamics of migration and displacement, including forced migration due to conflict, climate change, economic hardship, and natural disasters. Participants will learn how these factors impact community structures, livelihoods, and access to essential services.

A strong emphasis is placed on integrating displaced populations into host communities through inclusive planning and social cohesion strategies. The course highlights how community development can reduce tensions, promote peaceful coexistence, and support shared economic opportunities.

Participants will also examine livelihood restoration and economic empowerment strategies for displaced populations. These include skills training, entrepreneurship support, access to finance, and integration into local labor markets to promote self-reliance.

The training integrates humanitarian-development-peace (HDP) nexus approaches, ensuring that emergency response, recovery, and long-term development are effectively linked. Participants will learn how to design programs that address immediate needs while building long-term resilience.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to design and implement community development interventions that support migration-affected populations, promote inclusion, and strengthen social and economic stability in displacement contexts
