Course Introduction

The Combined Assurance and Integrated Assurance Mapping Training Course provides a comprehensive framework for understanding, designing, implementing, and continuously improving coordinated assurance across an organization. The program examines how internal audit, risk management, compliance, external audit, information security, quality assurance, regulatory functions, management controls, and other assurance providers can work together to create a clearer and more effective view of risk coverage.

The course explores the principles and practical techniques required to develop an integrated assurance map that connects organizational objectives, strategic risks, processes, controls, assurance activities, assurance providers, findings, and management actions. Participants will learn how to identify assurance sources, assess their respective mandates and responsibilities, evaluate coverage, detect gaps and duplication, and establish a structured view of how assurance is delivered across the enterprise.

Participants will develop practical skills for assessing the reliability, scope, depth, frequency, independence, and effectiveness of different assurance activities. The training emphasizes the importance of distinguishing between management controls, monitoring activities, second-line oversight, internal audit, external assurance, regulatory reviews, specialist assessments, and other assurance mechanisms while avoiding unnecessary duplication and preserving appropriate independence.

The program also examines how combined assurance can strengthen governance, risk management, control effectiveness, and decision-making by providing boards, audit committees, executives, and management with a more comprehensive understanding of assurance coverage. Participants will explore governance structures, assurance ownership, coordination mechanisms, information sharing, reporting protocols, assurance calendars, maturity assessments, and escalation arrangements that support effective integrated assurance.

Modern organizations face increasingly interconnected risks involving cybersecurity, data privacy, artificial intelligence, third parties, operational resilience, sustainability, regulatory change, digital transformation, and rapidly evolving business models. The course incorporates these emerging issues and demonstrates how integrated assurance mapping can help organizations identify fragmented coverage, address assurance gaps, coordinate specialist reviews, and improve visibility over complex and cross-functional risk areas.

By completing the program, participants will be equipped to design practical assurance maps, coordinate assurance providers, evaluate coverage quality, identify gaps and overlaps, improve assurance efficiency, and communicate integrated assurance insights to senior management and governance bodies. The course provides a structured approach for developing a mature combined assurance capability that supports better risk visibility, stronger governance, more efficient assurance resources, and greater organizational confidence.
