Course Introduction

Climate change is transforming global food systems, creating challenges for sustainable production, distribution, and consumption. This course equips participants with strategic approaches to plan, govern, and manage climate-smart food systems that are resilient, inclusive, and adaptive.

Participants will explore the integration of policy, governance, and planning frameworks to strengthen food system resilience. Emphasis is placed on translating scientific evidence and climate data into actionable strategies for decision-makers at all levels.

The course provides insights into multi-sectoral governance, including coordination between agriculture, nutrition, trade, and social protection systems. Learners examine how institutional arrangements affect policy implementation and program outcomes.

Through case studies and practical exercises, participants analyze real-world examples of climate-smart food systems planning. Key topics include institutional governance, risk assessment, stakeholder engagement, and resource mobilization for resilience.

Emerging challenges, including climate finance, digital tools for monitoring, and adaptive governance strategies, are explored. Participants gain competencies to evaluate policies, optimize planning, and implement interventions for sustainable food security outcomes.

By the end of this course, participants will be prepared to lead climate-smart planning initiatives, strengthen institutional governance, and design food system policies that enhance resilience and promote equitable outcomes for vulnerable populations.
