Course Introduction

Climate change is creating unprecedented challenges for agricultural productivity, food security, and rural livelihoods. The Climate Smart Agricultural Extension Services Course equips participants with skills to design, implement, and manage extension services that promote climate-smart agriculture practices, resilience, and sustainable food systems.

Participants will learn how to support farmers and communities in adopting innovative technologies, sustainable soil and water management techniques, and climate-resilient crop and livestock practices. The course emphasizes practical approaches to enhancing knowledge transfer, farmer engagement, and adoption of climate-smart solutions.

Through case studies, simulations, and field-based approaches, participants explore successful agricultural extension models that integrate digital tools, participatory methods, and locally appropriate innovations. Learners gain the ability to develop strategies that respond to climate variability and enhance farm-level resilience.

The program also highlights policy frameworks, institutional arrangements, and financing mechanisms that support climate-smart extension services. Participants learn how to align extension interventions with national climate adaptation priorities and sustainable development goals.

Participants will develop skills in monitoring and evaluating extension programs, designing farmer training modules, and assessing the socio-economic and environmental impact of climate-smart practices. Emphasis is placed on gender inclusivity, community participation, and equity in service delivery.

By the end of the course, learners will be able to lead effective agricultural extension programs that enhance climate adaptation, increase productivity, improve livelihoods, and strengthen resilience across food systems.
