Course Introduction

This course provides an in-depth understanding of climate science tailored specifically for environmental policy professionals. It bridges the gap between complex climate science research and practical policy-making, enabling participants to interpret scientific findings and translate them into effective environmental policies and regulatory frameworks.

Participants will explore the fundamental principles of climate systems, including atmospheric dynamics, greenhouse gas effects, global warming mechanisms, and climate variability. The course emphasizes how scientific data is generated, analyzed, and applied in shaping national and international environmental policies.

A key focus is placed on the relationship between climate science and policy development. Learners will understand how scientific evidence informs climate legislation, environmental governance, and sustainability strategies, ensuring that policy decisions are grounded in robust scientific understanding.

The course also examines climate modeling and prediction tools used to forecast future climate scenarios. Participants will gain insight into how models are developed, validated, and interpreted to support long-term environmental planning and risk assessment in policy contexts.

Attention is given to uncertainty in climate science and how it is communicated to policymakers. The course highlights methods for interpreting probabilistic data, managing uncertainty, and making informed decisions under conditions of incomplete scientific knowledge.

By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to effectively integrate climate science into environmental policy development, enabling them to design evidence-based strategies that address climate change challenges and promote sustainable development outcomes.

Duration

5 days
