Course Introduction

Climate risks increasingly threaten the stability and sustainability of global food systems. This course provides participants with in-depth knowledge and practical skills to govern climate-related risks, ensuring food systems are resilient, adaptive, and capable of sustaining livelihoods under uncertainty.

Participants will explore the integration of climate science, policy frameworks, and governance mechanisms to manage risks effectively. Emphasis is placed on institutional coordination, multi-level governance, and alignment with international climate and food security targets.

The course emphasizes strategic planning for sustainable food systems, including assessing vulnerabilities, prioritizing interventions, and designing risk-informed governance structures that enhance system-wide resilience. Participants will learn to bridge science, policy, and practice.

Digital tools, early warning systems, and decision support mechanisms are key components of climate risk governance. Learners will gain practical expertise in using predictive analytics, geospatial monitoring, and real-time data integration to inform governance decisions.

A strong focus is placed on stakeholder engagement and policy implementation. Participants will develop skills in coordinating public, private, and community actors, ensuring inclusive decision-making that accounts for social equity, gender, and marginalized groups in food systems governance.

By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to implement robust climate risk governance frameworks, integrate adaptive strategies, and evaluate policy effectiveness to secure sustainable, resilient food systems capable of withstanding future climate challenges.
