Course Introduction

Effective communication of climate risks is essential for protecting food systems, guiding decision-making, and promoting resilience. This course equips participants with strategies to convey complex climate information clearly to farmers, policymakers, and stakeholders in agriculture and food security.

Participants will explore how climate hazards—such as droughts, floods, extreme temperatures, and pests—impact agricultural productivity and nutrition security, and how risk communication can inform timely interventions and adaptation strategies.

The course emphasizes integrating scientific evidence, real-time data, and scenario analysis into messaging tools that are accessible and actionable for diverse audiences, including rural communities and urban planners.

Through interactive exercises, case studies, and practical workshops, learners will analyze challenges in risk perception, trust, and behavioral response, ensuring messages lead to effective action in food systems under climate variability.

Participants will gain skills in leveraging technology, social media, mobile platforms, and community-based communication networks to disseminate warnings, advisories, and guidance for adaptive agricultural practices.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to design, implement, and evaluate comprehensive climate risk communication strategies that strengthen food system resilience, reduce vulnerabilities, and enhance stakeholder engagement.
