Course Introduction

The Climate Risk Assessment and Food Systems Planning Course equips professionals with the knowledge and tools needed to assess climate risks across food systems and design adaptive, resilient strategies. It combines climate science, risk modeling, and program planning for actionable outcomes.

Climate change continues to disrupt agricultural productivity, supply chains, and nutrition security globally. This course provides an in-depth understanding of climate hazards, exposure, and vulnerabilities in food systems, enabling participants to anticipate risks and implement effective mitigation measures.

Participants will gain practical experience in using risk assessment methodologies, scenario planning, and vulnerability mapping to inform food systems planning. They will explore case studies that demonstrate how data-driven insights can guide decision-making in diverse contexts.

The program emphasizes integrating climate risk analysis into planning, monitoring, and evaluation of food programs. Learners will develop the skills to design adaptive strategies that maintain productivity, protect livelihoods, and enhance overall food system resilience.

Stakeholder engagement and cross-sector collaboration are key components of the course. Participants will learn how to involve governments, communities, NGOs, and private sector actors in risk-informed food systems planning, ensuring inclusivity and long-term sustainability.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to perform comprehensive climate risk assessments and develop actionable plans to enhance resilience in food systems. They will be prepared to lead climate-informed initiatives that ensure food security and sustainability.
