Course Introduction

Water is the foundation of agricultural productivity, yet climate change is increasingly disrupting water availability, distribution, and quality across farming systems worldwide. The Climate Resilient Water Resource Management for Agriculture Course is designed to equip participants with advanced knowledge and practical tools to sustainably manage water resources under changing climatic conditions.

This course explores the complex relationship between climate change and water resources, focusing on how variability in rainfall, prolonged droughts, and extreme weather events affect agricultural systems. Participants will gain insights into the challenges of water scarcity, inefficient usage, and competing demands across sectors.

Through a multidisciplinary approach, the course integrates hydrology, agronomy, and climate science with innovative water management practices. It emphasizes the need for adaptive strategies that enhance water efficiency, improve productivity, and reduce vulnerability to climate risks in agriculture.

Participants will learn about modern irrigation technologies, watershed management, rainwater harvesting, and soil moisture conservation techniques. The course also highlights the role of digital tools, remote sensing, and data analytics in optimizing water use and improving decision-making processes.

In addition, the course addresses policy frameworks, governance structures, and financing mechanisms that support sustainable water management. It provides a platform for understanding how institutions, communities, and private sector actors can collaborate to build resilient water systems.

By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to design and implement climate-resilient water management strategies that enhance agricultural sustainability, ensure food security, and support long-term environmental conservation in diverse agro-ecological contexts.
