Course Introduction

Livestock systems are increasingly vulnerable to climate change, affecting productivity, food security, and livelihoods. This course equips participants with the skills to design, implement, and manage climate-resilient livestock practices that ensure sustainable food systems.

Participants will explore how changing temperature, rainfall patterns, and extreme weather events impact animal health, feed availability, and overall productivity, and how adaptive strategies can mitigate these risks.

The course emphasizes integration of innovative approaches such as precision livestock management, sustainable feed systems, water conservation, and disease monitoring for resilient livestock operations.

Through case studies, field exercises, and modeling scenarios, participants will analyze socio-economic and environmental dimensions of livestock systems, ensuring solutions are both practical and sustainable for smallholder and commercial farms.

Participants will gain insight into institutional, policy, and community-level interventions that promote adaptive capacity, collaboration, and resilient practices, bridging gaps between research, policy, and field implementation.

By the end of the course, learners will be able to apply climate-smart livestock management practices, strengthen food security, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and contribute to sustainable agricultural systems under evolving climate conditions.
