Course Introduction

Climate change is increasingly affecting food production systems worldwide, influencing crop yields, livestock productivity, and overall food security. This course equips participants with the knowledge and skills to assess climate impacts on agricultural systems and design adaptive strategies to enhance resilience.

Participants will explore methodologies for evaluating climate variability, extreme weather events, and long-term climate trends on crops, livestock, fisheries, and supply chains. The course emphasizes integrating scientific data with socio-economic analysis to inform actionable decisions for food production planning.

Learners will gain expertise in modeling and scenario analysis, enabling the evaluation of vulnerabilities, risks, and potential adaptive measures for diverse agricultural systems under changing climatic conditions.

Through case studies, field exercises, and applied simulations, participants will examine the direct and indirect impacts of climate change on food production, including soil degradation, pest and disease incidence, water availability, and resource management.

The course also addresses policy, governance, and stakeholder engagement strategies, empowering participants to translate impact assessments into practical adaptation interventions, risk reduction measures, and decision support tools.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to design, implement, and evaluate comprehensive climate impact assessments, support adaptive management, and contribute to resilient, sustainable, and productive food systems.
