Course Introduction

Climate finance readiness has become a critical requirement for countries, institutions, and organizations seeking to access global climate funds. This course provides a structured pathway for understanding how to build institutional, technical, and financial capacity to successfully access and manage international climate finance.

Participants will explore the operational frameworks of major global funds such as the Green Climate Fund, Global Environment Facility, Adaptation Fund, and other multilateral financing mechanisms. The course explains eligibility criteria, accreditation processes, and proposal development requirements.

A strong focus is placed on developing climate finance readiness systems, including governance structures, fiduciary standards, environmental and social safeguards, and monitoring and evaluation frameworks required by international financiers.

The course also examines national designated authorities (NDAs), implementing entities, and accredited entities, highlighting how they interact within global climate finance ecosystems. Participants will understand institutional roles and responsibilities in fund access.

Practical training is provided on designing bankable climate project proposals, including climate adaptation and mitigation projects that meet international funding standards. Case studies demonstrate successful fund mobilization strategies across developing economies.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to assess readiness gaps, strengthen institutional capacity, and develop competitive proposals to secure funding from global climate finance mechanisms.
