Course Introduction

Climate finance and green taxation are becoming central pillars in global fiscal policy as governments respond to climate change, environmental degradation, and sustainability challenges. This course provides a comprehensive understanding of how fiscal systems can be redesigned to support environmental protection while ensuring sustainable revenue generation.

As countries transition toward low-carbon economies, tax systems are increasingly being used as instruments to influence environmental behavior. Green taxes, carbon pricing mechanisms, and environmental levies are now key tools for shaping sustainable development pathways. This course explores how these instruments are designed, implemented, and monitored.

A major focus of the course is climate finance, which involves mobilizing public and private funds to support climate mitigation and adaptation projects. Participants will learn how climate finance mechanisms interact with tax systems, international funding structures, and domestic revenue policies to achieve sustainability goals.

The course also examines sustainable revenue systems that balance fiscal stability with environmental responsibility. It highlights how governments can diversify revenue sources while discouraging environmentally harmful activities through targeted taxation and incentives for green investments.

Another important dimension is policy integration, where environmental, fiscal, and economic policies are aligned to ensure coherence in national development strategies. Participants will explore how coordination between ministries, revenue authorities, and environmental agencies enhances policy effectiveness.

Ultimately, this course equips participants with the knowledge and tools to design and implement climate-aligned fiscal systems. By integrating finance, taxation, and sustainability principles, participants will contribute to building resilient, low-carbon, and environmentally responsible economies
