Course Introduction

Water security is becoming one of the most urgent global development challenges, with climate change intensifying droughts, floods, groundwater depletion, and ecosystem degradation. This course explores how climate finance mechanisms can be strategically deployed to strengthen water resilience systems across urban, rural, and transboundary contexts.

The program provides a comprehensive understanding of how financial instruments, investment frameworks, and policy tools can be aligned to support sustainable water infrastructure, climate adaptation, and risk mitigation strategies. It bridges the gap between climate finance and integrated water resource management.

Participants will examine the economic, environmental, and governance dimensions of water security, including how climate risks are quantified and translated into investable projects. The course emphasizes mobilizing both public and private capital for water resilience initiatives.

A strong focus is placed on climate risk assessment tools, resilience planning frameworks, and blended finance models that support water infrastructure development. Participants will also explore how development banks and climate funds prioritize water-related investments.

The training integrates global case studies on drought resilience, flood management systems, irrigation modernization, and urban water security planning. These real-world examples demonstrate how climate finance is operationalized in water systems transformation.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to design, evaluate, and finance water security projects that enhance resilience, reduce vulnerability, and support sustainable development under changing climate conditions.
