Course Introduction

Climate finance has become a critical instrument in addressing the growing impacts of climate change on agriculture and rural development systems worldwide. This course provides a comprehensive understanding of how financial resources are mobilized, allocated, and utilized to support climate-resilient agricultural development.

Agriculture remains one of the most climate-sensitive sectors, heavily exposed to droughts, floods, shifting rainfall patterns, and rising temperatures. This training equips participants with knowledge of how climate finance mechanisms can reduce vulnerability and strengthen adaptation capacity in rural communities.

Participants will explore global and national climate finance frameworks, including the Green Climate Fund, Adaptation Fund, and other bilateral and multilateral financing mechanisms. The course emphasizes practical approaches to accessing and managing climate funds effectively.

The training also focuses on designing climate-smart investment plans for agriculture and rural development projects. Participants will learn how to align agricultural programs with climate finance eligibility requirements and reporting standards.

Special attention is given to innovative financing instruments such as climate bonds, carbon markets, results-based financing, and blended finance models that support sustainable agricultural transformation.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to design, access, manage, and evaluate climate finance initiatives that strengthen agricultural resilience and promote sustainable rural development.
