Course Introduction

Climate change increasingly disrupts global food systems through shifting weather patterns, droughts, floods, and temperature extremes. The Climate Change Scenario Analysis for Food Systems Course equips participants with practical skills to model, analyze, and interpret multiple future scenarios, enabling evidence-based decision-making to strengthen food security and resilience.

Participants will learn to link climate data, socio-economic indicators, and agricultural performance metrics to generate actionable scenarios. The course emphasizes understanding complex system interactions, assessing risk, and identifying opportunities to enhance adaptive capacity in vulnerable food systems.

Through hands-on exercises, learners explore scenario modeling techniques, including predictive analytics, simulation, and GIS-based visualization. Participants gain the ability to create plausible, evidence-based projections of crop yields, food supply chains, market dynamics, and nutrition outcomes under different climate futures.

The program also highlights policy implications, governance frameworks, and planning strategies that incorporate scenario analysis outputs. Participants are trained to communicate insights effectively to policymakers, NGOs, agribusinesses, and community organizations, fostering data-driven planning and resilient food systems.

Participants will explore both qualitative and quantitative approaches, integrating historical data, real-time monitoring, and stakeholder knowledge into scenario development. Emphasis is placed on inclusivity, equity, and multi-level decision-making to ensure outcomes support diverse populations, especially vulnerable and marginalized communities.

By the end of the course, learners will be able to design, implement, and communicate scenario analyses that inform strategic interventions, prioritize investments, and enhance resilience across local, national, and global food systems in the context of climate uncertainty.
