Course Introduction

Climate change risk modelling is a critical tool for understanding how environmental changes will impact societies, economies, and ecosystems. This course introduces practical methods for analyzing climate risks and using models to support strategic planning and decision-making.

Organizations and governments face increasing uncertainty due to climate-related hazards such as floods, droughts, heatwaves, and sea level rise. This course explains how risk modelling helps predict these impacts and supports better preparedness and planning.

Participants will learn how to build and interpret climate risk models using real-world data and scenarios. The course focuses on turning complex climate information into clear insights that can guide strategic decisions and long-term planning.

The program also explores how risk modelling is integrated into strategic planning frameworks across sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, water, energy, and urban development. It highlights how modelling improves resilience and reduces uncertainty in planning processes.

Case studies will demonstrate how organizations and governments use climate risk models to guide investments, policies, and adaptation strategies. These examples show how modelling supports more informed and effective decision-making.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to understand, develop, and apply climate risk models for strategic planning. They will gain practical skills to support resilience, risk reduction, and sustainable development.
