Course Introduction

The Climate Change Policy Modelling and Evidence-Based Planning Course is designed to equip professionals with advanced skills in developing, analyzing, and applying policy models that guide climate action. It focuses on transforming scientific evidence, socio-economic data, and environmental indicators into structured policy frameworks that support effective climate governance and sustainable development planning.

This course explores the intersection of climate science, economics, and public policy, emphasizing how modeling techniques can be used to simulate policy outcomes and evaluate long-term environmental and economic impacts. Participants will learn how to design robust policy scenarios that reflect real-world uncertainties and dynamic climate systems.

A major emphasis is placed on evidence-based planning approaches that ensure climate policies are grounded in reliable data and measurable outcomes. Learners will examine how governments and institutions use integrated assessment models, cost-benefit analysis, and scenario planning tools to inform strategic climate decisions.

The training also highlights advanced policy simulation techniques, including systems dynamics modeling, econometric forecasting, and multi-criteria decision analysis. These tools enable participants to assess trade-offs, optimize policy interventions, and identify the most effective pathways for emissions reduction and climate adaptation.

In addition, the course addresses global climate governance frameworks such as the Paris Agreement and national determined contributions (NDCs), demonstrating how policy modeling supports compliance, transparency, and accountability in climate commitments across different countries and sectors.

Ultimately, this course empowers participants to become skilled climate policy analysts and planners capable of designing evidence-driven strategies that accelerate climate action. It strengthens the ability to bridge data, modeling, and governance for impactful and sustainable policy outcomes.
