Introduction

This training course provides participants with an in-depth understanding of climate change law and the growing role of strategic climate litigation in advancing accountability, policy reform, and environmental justice. It equips professionals with legal, analytical, and advocacy skills to respond to climate-related legal challenges.

Participants will examine international, regional, and national climate change legal frameworks, including treaties, statutes, regulations, and policy instruments. The course emphasizes how law is used to enforce climate commitments, protect vulnerable communities, and influence government and corporate behavior.

Through practical case studies and landmark judicial decisions, participants will explore how strategic climate litigation is shaping climate governance. The program highlights rights-based litigation, public interest cases, corporate liability, and the use of courts as tools for climate action.

The course also focuses on procedural and evidentiary aspects of climate litigation, including standing, causation, attribution science, and remedies. Participants will gain practical insight into litigation strategies, risk assessment, and judicial approaches to climate disputes.

Emerging issues such as loss and damage claims, climate-related human rights litigation, ESG-linked lawsuits, and transnational climate disputes are integrated throughout the course. This ensures participants remain current with evolving legal and policy developments.

By the end of the program, participants will be able to interpret climate laws, design strategic litigation approaches, assess legal risks, and contribute effectively to climate governance, policy reform, and climate justice initiatives at national and international levels.
