Course Introduction

Climate change is profoundly reshaping global food systems, affecting production, distribution, and consumption patterns. The Climate Change Impact Evaluation on Food Systems Course provides participants with the analytical skills and methodologies to assess these impacts and inform effective interventions that enhance food security and resilience.

Participants will explore how rising temperatures, changing rainfall patterns, and extreme weather events influence crop yields, livestock productivity, fisheries, and supply chains. The course emphasizes a systems-based approach to understanding interconnections within food production, processing, and distribution networks.

The course introduces quantitative and qualitative assessment methods for evaluating climate impacts, including statistical analysis, modeling, scenario planning, and field surveys. Participants will learn how to interpret data to support policy, investment, and adaptation strategies across diverse food systems.

Through real-world case studies, participants will analyze past climate events and project future scenarios to identify vulnerabilities and opportunities for adaptation. The program highlights the importance of integrating climate risk into agricultural planning, food security programs, and resource allocation decisions.

Participants will also examine socio-economic, policy, and governance dimensions, including food access, nutrition outcomes, market dynamics, and institutional frameworks. Emphasis is placed on equity, inclusion, and support for smallholder farmers and marginalized communities.

By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to design, implement, and evaluate climate impact assessments for food systems, enabling evidence-based decision-making that strengthens resilience, optimizes resources, and promotes sustainable food security under changing climatic conditions.
