Course Introduction

The Climate Change and Global Food Systems Dynamics Course provides a comprehensive understanding of how climate change influences the structure, function, and stability of global food systems. It equips participants with analytical and strategic skills to examine complex interactions between environmental change, agricultural production, trade, and food security outcomes across diverse regions.

Climate change is reshaping global food systems through rising temperatures, shifting rainfall patterns, and increasing frequency of extreme weather events. This course explores how these factors disrupt production, distribution, and consumption patterns, while also examining the cascading effects on markets, livelihoods, and nutrition at local and global levels.

Participants will gain insights into the interconnected nature of global food systems, including supply chains, trade networks, and policy environments. Through case studies and scenario analysis, the course highlights vulnerabilities and opportunities for transformation, enabling learners to anticipate risks and design adaptive strategies for resilience.

The program emphasizes systems thinking and interdisciplinary approaches, combining climate science, economics, and policy analysis. Participants will learn to evaluate feedback loops, identify leverage points, and understand how interventions in one part of the system can influence outcomes across the entire food system.

In addition to technical knowledge, the course focuses on governance and institutional frameworks that shape food system dynamics. Participants will explore how policies, regulations, and international agreements influence food production, trade, and access, and how governance can be strengthened to support sustainable and resilient systems.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to analyze global food system trends, assess climate-related risks, and design strategies that enhance resilience and sustainability. They will be equipped to contribute to transformative initiatives that address food security challenges in an increasingly complex and uncertain global environment.
