Course Introduction

Climate change disproportionately affects vulnerable populations, with women often experiencing the greatest challenges in food production, access, and nutrition. The Climate Change and Gender Dimensions in Food Security Course provides participants with critical insights on integrating gender considerations into climate adaptation and food security strategies.

Participants will explore how gender roles, access to resources, decision-making power, and social norms influence vulnerability and resilience in food systems. The course emphasizes designing interventions that are both climate-smart and gender-sensitive to ensure equitable outcomes.

Through practical case studies, participants will analyze how climate shocks impact women and men differently across agricultural production, processing, distribution, and nutrition. Strategies for inclusive adaptation, empowerment, and capacity building are highlighted throughout the course.

The course equips participants with tools to assess gender-specific vulnerabilities and capacities, measure equity outcomes, and design evidence-based interventions that strengthen food security. Emphasis is placed on participatory approaches, policy integration, and multi-stakeholder collaboration.

Participants will also learn to evaluate programs and policies for gender responsiveness in climate-smart agriculture, food systems, and nutrition initiatives. The course highlights global best practices and emerging innovations for integrating gender into food security planning.

By the end of the program, participants will have the skills to develop, implement, and monitor climate adaptation strategies that consider gender dimensions, promote inclusivity, and enhance resilience across food systems in diverse contexts.
