Course Introduction

Climate change poses unprecedented challenges to global food systems, disrupting production, distribution, and access. This course equips participants with advanced modeling techniques to simulate and evaluate the impacts of climate variability on agricultural and food security systems.

Participants will learn to integrate environmental, economic, and social datasets into predictive models. The course emphasizes practical, data-driven approaches to understand vulnerability, resilience, and adaptive capacity across diverse agricultural landscapes and food supply chains.

The program covers both conceptual and quantitative methods, including system dynamics, agent-based modeling, and probabilistic simulations. Participants explore how to forecast climate impacts on crop yields, livestock productivity, and market dynamics to inform strategic decision-making.

Emerging challenges such as climate-induced shocks, extreme weather events, and global supply chain volatility are addressed. Participants develop skills to model complex interdependencies, ensuring robust planning for climate-resilient food security programs.

Case studies from regions affected by droughts, floods, and temperature variability illustrate real-world applications. Participants engage in scenario testing, sensitivity analysis, and policy evaluation to strengthen evidence-based recommendations.

By course completion, participants will be able to design and implement sophisticated food system models that guide investment, policy, and programmatic decisions. They will acquire the expertise to enhance resilience, mitigate risks, and promote sustainable food security outcomes.
