Course Introduction

Climate change increasingly threatens food security by altering crop yields, disrupting supply chains, and affecting livelihoods. The Climate Change and Food Security Strategic Planning Course equips participants with the skills to design, implement, and evaluate strategic plans that enhance resilience, sustainability, and adaptive capacity across food systems.

Participants will learn to integrate climate science, risk assessment, and policy frameworks into strategic planning processes. The course emphasizes evidence-based approaches for identifying vulnerabilities, prioritizing interventions, and aligning food security objectives with national and regional climate adaptation strategies.

Through practical case studies, participants explore methods for scenario analysis, forecasting, and modeling climate impacts on production, distribution, and nutrition. The course provides tools to translate complex climate and socio-economic data into actionable strategies for governments, NGOs, and private sector actors.

The program emphasizes the importance of stakeholder engagement and participatory planning. Participants will develop skills to coordinate multi-sectoral teams, incorporate local knowledge, and ensure inclusion of marginalized communities and gender-sensitive approaches in strategic plans.

Learners will gain hands-on experience in monitoring, evaluation, and adaptive management of food security strategies. Emphasis is placed on developing measurable indicators, tracking progress, and adjusting strategies in response to emerging climate risks and opportunities.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to design, implement, and assess strategic food security plans that are climate-resilient, scalable, and sustainable, ensuring effective resource allocation and long-term impact in diverse agroecological and socio-economic contexts.
