Course Introduction

The Climate Change and Food Security Programme Evaluation Course is designed to equip professionals with advanced knowledge and practical skills to assess, monitor, and evaluate food security programs in the context of climate change. Participants will learn to apply rigorous evaluation frameworks, data analysis methods, and evidence-based approaches to measure program effectiveness and resilience.

Climate change is increasingly impacting food systems through altered rainfall patterns, extreme weather events, and shifting agricultural zones, affecting livelihoods and nutrition security. This course provides participants with the tools to systematically evaluate programs, identify gaps, and recommend interventions that improve adaptive capacity and long-term food security outcomes.

Participants will gain practical skills in designing evaluation frameworks, selecting appropriate indicators, and implementing monitoring systems that integrate climate risk considerations. Case studies from different regions demonstrate how evaluation results can inform strategic planning, policy development, and resource allocation for food security programs.

The course emphasizes linking program evaluation to broader food system resilience strategies. Learners will explore methods to assess how interventions address vulnerability, strengthen community adaptation, and improve environmental, economic, and social sustainability outcomes.

A key component is the integration of quantitative and qualitative methods for comprehensive program evaluation. Participants will learn to use data visualization, statistical analysis, and participatory evaluation techniques to generate actionable insights for program improvement and accountability.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to design, implement, and interpret evaluations of climate-sensitive food security programs. They will be equipped to guide decision-making, enhance program effectiveness, and contribute to resilient and sustainable food systems globally.
