Course Introduction

Climate change increasingly threatens global food security, demanding innovative programme designs that enhance resilience, sustainability, and community adaptation. The Climate Change and Food Security Programme Design Course equips participants with the tools and knowledge to create impactful programs addressing climate-related food risks.

The course emphasizes evidence-based approaches for programme planning, integrating climate data, vulnerability assessments, and socio-economic analysis. Participants learn to design interventions that strengthen local food systems while supporting sustainable livelihoods and equitable resource access.

Participants will explore the full lifecycle of programme design, from needs assessment and stakeholder mapping to budgeting, monitoring, and evaluation. Practical exercises and real-world case studies ensure learners can translate theory into actionable, context-specific strategies.

Special focus is given to integrating multi-sectoral approaches that connect agriculture, nutrition, water, and climate adaptation. Learners will develop skills in coordinating stakeholders, leveraging institutional support, and aligning projects with national and international climate and food security frameworks.

The course also addresses emerging issues such as digital tools for programme monitoring, early warning systems, and climate-smart financing mechanisms. Participants will learn to integrate innovation and adaptive management into programme design for long-term resilience.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to design, implement, and evaluate climate-resilient food security programmes that mitigate risks, enhance productivity, and strengthen community and institutional capacity in diverse agro-ecological contexts.
