Course Introduction

Climate change is increasingly disrupting food systems, posing significant challenges to food security, nutrition, and livelihoods worldwide. The Climate Change and Food Security Policy Analysis Course is designed to equip participants with the analytical skills and policy insights needed to address these complex and interconnected issues effectively.

This course provides a comprehensive understanding of how climate change impacts food availability, access, utilization, and stability. Participants will examine the socio-economic and environmental drivers of food insecurity and explore how policy decisions influence outcomes across local, national, and global food systems.

A central focus of the course is on policy analysis frameworks and tools that enable evidence-based decision-making. Participants will learn to assess existing policies, identify gaps, and design strategies that enhance resilience and sustainability in food systems under climate stress.

The program integrates theoretical knowledge with real-world applications, including case studies of successful and failed policy interventions. It emphasizes the importance of cross-sectoral collaboration, governance, and stakeholder engagement in developing effective climate and food security policies.

Participants will also explore emerging policy issues such as climate finance, trade dynamics, food price volatility, and social protection systems. The course highlights the need for inclusive policies that address the needs of vulnerable populations, including smallholder farmers, women, and marginalized communities.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to critically analyze policies, propose innovative solutions, and contribute to the development of robust frameworks that promote food security and resilience in the face of climate change.
