Introduction

Climate change poses significant challenges to communities worldwide, with vulnerable populations disproportionately affected. NGOs play a critical role in designing and implementing adaptation strategies that enhance resilience and sustainability. This course equips participants with practical skills to develop, manage, and evaluate effective climate adaptation programs.

Participants will explore climate science fundamentals, including impacts on ecosystems, agriculture, health, and livelihoods. Emphasis is placed on understanding local and regional climate vulnerabilities to inform program design and decision-making.

The course integrates frameworks, policies, and best practices for climate adaptation, including international conventions, national strategies, and sectoral guidelines. Participants learn to align NGO interventions with global climate adaptation priorities and development goals.

Community engagement and participatory approaches are central to successful adaptation programming. The course provides tools for working with communities, stakeholders, and local authorities to co-create interventions that are inclusive, context-sensitive, and sustainable.

Monitoring, evaluation, and learning are emphasized to ensure adaptive management and evidence-based programming. Participants gain skills in designing indicators, assessing outcomes, and integrating lessons learned into ongoing adaptation initiatives.

Through case studies, simulations, and practical exercises, participants will develop the competencies to plan, implement, and scale climate adaptation programs, build organizational resilience, and promote sustainable development in the face of climate risks.
