Course Introduction

The Child Protection Data Management and Analytics Training Course provides a practical and comprehensive framework for managing, analysing, interpreting, and reporting data related to child protection risks, cases, services, referrals, prevention programmes, and protection outcomes. Participants will explore how high-quality data systems can strengthen case management, programme planning, monitoring, safeguarding, resource allocation, accountability, and evidence-based decision-making.

The course examines the complete child protection data lifecycle, from defining information needs and developing indicators to collecting, recording, validating, storing, analysing, visualising, and reporting information. Participants will learn how to work with case management, referral, assessment, programme monitoring, survey, administrative, and service-delivery datasets while applying responsible approaches to sensitive information concerning children and families.

A major focus is placed on understanding patterns of protection risks, service access, case characteristics, referrals, programme coverage, and outcomes. Participants will develop practical analytical skills for identifying trends, geographic concentrations, demographic disparities, service gaps, recurring concerns, emerging risks, and changes in protection conditions while recognising the limitations and sensitivities associated with child protection information.

The training introduces relevant data analytics techniques, including descriptive statistics, trend analysis, cohort analysis, disaggregation, geographic analysis, comparative analysis, data quality assessment, and selected forecasting approaches. Participants will explore how these methods can support programme monitoring, service planning, resource allocation, prevention strategies, case management oversight, referral system improvement, and organisational learning without exposing children or families to additional risks.

Particular attention is given to data governance, confidentiality, privacy, safeguarding, responsible data sharing, and protection-sensitive analytics. Participants will learn how to identify duplicate records, incomplete cases, inconsistent classifications, missing information, reporting biases, and other data-quality issues while establishing appropriate controls for sensitive child protection information. The course emphasises responsible handling of information throughout collection, analysis, reporting, sharing, retention, and disposal.

By the end of the course, participants will be better equipped to develop and use child protection data systems that generate credible and actionable evidence. They will be able to analyse protection and programme information, strengthen data quality, develop meaningful dashboards and reports, identify service and protection gaps, support evidence-based planning, and improve decision-making while maintaining the privacy, dignity, safety, and best interests of children.
