Course Introduction

Carbon markets are rapidly emerging as a key mechanism for financing climate change mitigation, particularly within the agriculture, forestry, and land use sectors. This course provides a comprehensive understanding of how carbon credits are generated, verified, traded, and monetized in agricultural systems.

Agriculture plays a significant role in global greenhouse gas emissions while also offering some of the most cost-effective opportunities for carbon sequestration. This training equips participants with the knowledge to develop and manage agriculture-based carbon projects effectively.

Participants will explore voluntary and compliance carbon markets, including project development methodologies, baseline setting, additionality principles, and carbon credit certification standards applicable to agriculture and land use systems.

The course also focuses on practical carbon project design, including soil carbon sequestration, agroforestry systems, regenerative agriculture, and livestock emission reduction strategies that generate tradable carbon credits.

Special emphasis is placed on monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) systems, carbon credit pricing mechanisms, and access to international carbon trading platforms and registries.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to design, implement, and manage agriculture-based carbon projects that generate verifiable credits and contribute to climate mitigation and rural income generation.
