Introduction
Burnout, compassion fatigue, and secondary trauma are increasingly affecting professionals working in high-demand, people-centered, and crisis-driven environments. This course provides an in-depth understanding of these conditions, their causes, and their impact on individual wellbeing, professional effectiveness, and organizational performance.
Participants will explore the psychological, emotional, and physiological dimensions of chronic workplace stress and prolonged exposure to others’ trauma. The course examines how burnout and secondary trauma develop over time and how they differ from normal occupational stress.
A strong emphasis is placed on compassion fatigue among helping professionals such as healthcare workers, social workers, humanitarian staff, educators, and first responders. Participants will gain practical insights into early warning signs, risk factors, and evidence-based prevention strategies.
The course integrates individual, team, and organizational perspectives to address burnout and trauma-related stress comprehensively. Participants will learn how work culture, leadership styles, workload, and systemic pressures contribute to psychosocial risk and resilience.
Practical tools for self-care, peer support, supervision, and organizational wellbeing will be introduced. The course highlights trauma-informed workplaces, ethical responsibility for staff care, and sustainable approaches to workforce wellbeing and retention.
By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to recognize, prevent, and respond to burnout, compassion fatigue, and secondary trauma. The training empowers individuals and organizations to foster resilience, psychological safety, and long-term professional sustainability.
