Introduction
Behavioral insights have transformed how governments and regulators understand decision-making, compliance, and policy effectiveness. This course introduces participants to the application of behavioral science in regulatory policy, demonstrating how subtle design choices and nudges can significantly influence behavior without coercion or excessive regulation.
Traditional regulatory approaches often assume that individuals and organizations act rationally with full information. In reality, cognitive biases, heuristics, social norms, and contextual factors shape behavior. This course explores how regulators can account for these factors to design smarter, more effective, and more proportionate regulatory interventions.
Participants will gain a structured understanding of behavioral economics, psychology, and decision science as they relate to public policy and regulation. The program highlights how nudging techniques can improve compliance, enhance consumer protection, promote public interest outcomes, and reduce regulatory burden simultaneously.
The course emphasizes practical application, moving beyond theory to real-world regulatory challenges. Through international case studies, participants examine how behavioral insights have been applied in areas such as tax compliance, financial regulation, environmental policy, health and safety, and consumer protection.
Emerging topics such as digital nudging, ethical boundaries, and evidence-based experimentation are explored in depth. Participants learn how to design, test, and evaluate behavioral interventions using randomized controlled trials and data-driven methods within regulatory and institutional constraints.
By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to integrate behavioral insights into regulatory design, implementation, and enforcement strategies, enabling institutions to achieve better outcomes, improve trust, and enhance policy effectiveness in complex and dynamic regulatory environments.

Duration

5 days
