Course Introduction

Audit of Accounting Records and Financial Transactions Training Course provides a practical and comprehensive framework for examining accounting records, financial transactions, supporting documentation, and financial reporting processes. Participants will develop the knowledge and techniques required to verify transaction accuracy, completeness, authorization, classification, occurrence, and proper recording within accounting systems.

The course focuses on the practical execution of transaction-level audit procedures across the accounting cycle. Participants will examine source documents, journals, ledgers, invoices, receipts, bank records, reconciliations, payment records, payroll information, procurement documents, and other evidence used to support financial transactions and accounting balances.

Participants will learn how to trace transactions from source documentation through accounting records and ultimately into financial statements. The program emphasizes identifying errors, duplicate transactions, unauthorized payments, unusual entries, incorrect classifications, cutoff issues, unsupported balances, and other exceptions that may affect the reliability of accounting information.

The course also examines transaction testing techniques, sampling, substantive procedures, analytical procedures, reconciliations, confirmations, vouching, tracing, recalculation, cutoff testing, and review of journal entries. Participants will learn how to select appropriate audit procedures based on transaction risks, financial statement assertions, materiality, internal controls, and the reliability of available evidence.

Special attention is given to fraud risks and control weaknesses that can arise within financial transaction processes. Participants will explore indicators of fictitious transactions, duplicate payments, management override, inappropriate adjustments, conflicts of interest, procurement irregularities, unauthorized expenditures, and manipulation of accounting records, while learning appropriate audit responses and documentation practices.

The program incorporates emerging practices including audit data analytics, automated transaction testing, artificial intelligence, continuous auditing, electronic records, cloud accounting, cybersecurity, and digital evidence. Participants will consider how technology can improve transaction testing while also creating new risks that auditors must identify, assess, document, and communicate effectively.
