Introduction

Asset and Liability Management (ALM) is a cornerstone of sound financial management in banks and financial institutions. With increased regulatory requirements, fluctuating interest rates, liquidity pressures, and volatile global markets, the need for effective ALM strategies has never been more urgent. This course is designed to provide participants with the skills, frameworks, and practical insights to manage balance sheet risks and optimize profitability while maintaining stability.

The course begins with a thorough foundation of ALM principles, including the measurement, monitoring, and control of risks related to liquidity, interest rates, capital adequacy, and funding. Participants will explore ALM from both a regulatory and strategic perspective, gaining tools to balance risk and return while ensuring compliance with global standards.

As the financial industry becomes increasingly digitalized and data-driven, this course also emphasizes modern approaches to ALM, including the integration of financial technology, advanced analytics, and scenario-based modeling. Participants will learn how innovations such as machine learning and dynamic simulation techniques are being applied to strengthen decision-making in ALM.

Additionally, the program addresses emerging risks and challenges, including the management of climate-related financial risks, ESG considerations, and systemic shocks. Stress testing, scenario analysis, and contingency planning will be highlighted as essential tools in building institutional resilience.

By the end of the course, participants will not only understand the theoretical underpinnings of ALM but also gain hands-on skills to design, implement, and manage ALM frameworks that improve financial stability, optimize capital, and enhance organizational competitiveness.
