Introduction
Rapid technological innovation is fundamentally transforming global energy systems, introducing emerging and disruptive technologies that challenge conventional planning, investment, and regulatory approaches. This training course provides a structured framework for assessing such technologies at system level to support informed, forward-looking energy decisions.
The course emphasizes understanding emerging energy technologies not in isolation, but as components of complex, evolving energy systems. Participants will explore how new technologies interact with existing infrastructure, markets, policies, and user behavior, shaping system performance, risks, and long-term value.
Participants are introduced to analytical methods and assessment tools used internationally to evaluate disruptive energy technologies. These include technology readiness assessment, techno-economic analysis, systems modeling, lifecycle assessment, and scenario-based evaluation under uncertainty.
Strong focus is placed on uncertainty, learning curves, and transition dynamics. Participants will assess how cost reductions, scaling pathways, regulatory adaptation, and innovation ecosystems influence the viability and timing of disruptive energy technology deployment.
Emerging topics such as green hydrogen, advanced energy storage, artificial intelligence in energy systems, blockchain-enabled energy markets, small modular reactors, and carbon removal technologies are integrated throughout the course to reflect current and future disruption trends.
Through applied case studies and structured exercises, participants will develop practical skills to assess, compare, and prioritize emerging energy technologies. The course equips professionals to support strategic planning, investment decisions, and policy design in rapidly evolving energy landscapes.
