Course Introduction

Artificial Intelligence projects require a distinctive approach to project management because they combine business transformation, data engineering, software development, statistical modeling, machine learning, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and organizational change. This course provides a practical framework for managing AI initiatives throughout their lifecycle, ensuring that business objectives, technical feasibility, data readiness, governance, and measurable outcomes remain aligned from project initiation through operational deployment.

Managing an AI project involves considerably more uncertainty than managing conventional technology projects. Requirements may evolve as data is explored, model performance can vary, experimentation may produce unexpected results, and technical approaches can change rapidly as new AI capabilities emerge. Participants will learn how to structure AI initiatives around discovery, use-case selection, feasibility assessment, business case development, data preparation, model development, validation, deployment, adoption, and benefits realization.

The course emphasizes integrated AI project planning and controls, including work breakdown structures, roadmaps, milestones, resource planning, budgets, dependencies, experimentation plans, risk registers, issue management, quality controls, and executive reporting. Participants will examine how to coordinate data scientists, machine learning engineers, software developers, data engineers, subject matter experts, cybersecurity specialists, legal and compliance professionals, vendors, and business stakeholders within an effective delivery governance model.

AI projects introduce risks that require specialized management approaches, including biased or incomplete data, model drift, hallucinations, explainability challenges, privacy concerns, intellectual property issues, cybersecurity threats, unreliable outputs, regulatory obligations, infrastructure constraints, and uncertain return on investment. The course provides practical methods for identifying and controlling these risks while establishing appropriate model validation, responsible AI governance, human oversight, security controls, documentation, auditability, and decision-making processes.

Successful AI deployment also depends on organizational readiness and sustained adoption. Participants will explore stakeholder engagement, process redesign, human-AI collaboration, change impact assessment, training, communication, user acceptance, operating model changes, support arrangements, and performance measurement. The course demonstrates how project managers can bridge the gap between experimental AI capabilities and dependable production solutions that create measurable business value.

The AI landscape is evolving rapidly through generative AI, multimodal models, AI agents, retrieval-augmented generation, machine learning platforms, foundation models, synthetic data, automated machine learning, edge AI, and intelligent automation. Participants will examine how these technologies affect project scope, architecture, delivery methods, risk profiles, resource requirements, testing, governance, and lifecycle management while developing strategies for responsible, scalable, secure, and continuously improving AI solutions.
