Course Introduction

Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming humanitarian operations by enabling faster, more accurate, and data-driven decision-making in complex and resource-constrained environments. This course provides a comprehensive foundation for understanding how AI technologies can be applied to improve humanitarian response, planning, and impact.

The program explores how AI tools such as machine learning, predictive analytics, and natural language processing are used to analyze large volumes of humanitarian data. Participants will gain insights into how AI supports decision-making in disaster response, food security, health interventions, and crisis management.

A strong emphasis is placed on ethical and responsible use of AI in humanitarian contexts. The course examines challenges such as bias, data privacy, accountability, and the risks of over-reliance on automated systems, ensuring participants understand the importance of human-centered AI approaches.

Participants will also learn how AI enhances situational awareness by integrating data from multiple sources, including satellite imagery, mobile data, and social media. These insights enable humanitarian actors to respond more effectively and allocate resources where they are needed most.

The course integrates practical applications and case studies, demonstrating how AI-driven systems are used in real-world humanitarian operations. Participants will develop the ability to evaluate AI tools and frameworks and understand their limitations and opportunities.

By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to leverage AI technologies responsibly, improve decision-making processes, and enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of humanitarian interventions.
