Introduction
Applied macroeconomic policy analysis and forecasting are central to effective economic governance, enabling governments and institutions to design, evaluate, and adjust policies in response to evolving economic conditions. This course provides participants with a rigorous and practical understanding of macroeconomic frameworks used to analyze growth, inflation, employment, fiscal sustainability, and external sector dynamics.
The programme is designed to bridge macroeconomic theory with real-world policy application, focusing on how macroeconomic indicators, models, and data are used to support evidence-based decision-making. Participants will gain a strong foundation in interpreting macroeconomic trends and diagnosing policy challenges at national and sectoral levels.
Participants will be exposed to modern macroeconomic policy tools used by ministries of finance, central banks, and international financial institutions. Emphasis is placed on fiscal, monetary, and exchange rate policy interactions, as well as their short-term and long-term impacts on economic stability and inclusive growth.
A core focus of the course is macroeconomic forecasting, where participants learn practical techniques for projecting key economic variables using quantitative models and scenario analysis. The programme highlights how forecasting informs budget planning, debt sustainability assessments, and medium-term development strategies.
The course also examines emerging global and regional challenges shaping macroeconomic policy, including debt vulnerabilities, climate change, digitalization, global financial volatility, and geopolitical shocks. These issues are analyzed through applied case studies to strengthen participants’ analytical and policy response capabilities.
By the end of the programme, participants will possess enhanced skills in applied macroeconomic analysis and forecasting, enabling them to contribute more effectively to policy formulation, economic planning, and strategic advisory roles within public and private sector institutions.
