Course Introduction

Animal health systems form the backbone of sustainable livestock production, food safety, and public health protection. This course provides a comprehensive understanding of animal health management frameworks, disease prevention strategies, and biosecurity systems essential for modern livestock production and veterinary practice.

In an increasingly interconnected world, animal diseases can spread rapidly across regions, affecting productivity, trade, and human health. This training equips participants with practical tools to prevent, detect, and respond to animal health threats through integrated surveillance and control systems.

The course explores major livestock diseases, epidemiology, diagnostics, vaccination programs, and herd health management practices. Participants will gain skills in identifying disease patterns and implementing evidence-based interventions to improve animal health outcomes.

A strong focus is placed on biosecurity systems at farm, regional, and national levels. Participants will learn how to design and implement effective biosecurity protocols that reduce disease introduction and transmission risks within livestock systems.

The training also covers veterinary public health, antimicrobial resistance, food safety, and emergency disease response systems. These components are critical for ensuring safe animal products and protecting human populations from zoonotic diseases.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to design and manage robust animal health and biosecurity systems that improve productivity, reduce disease losses, and strengthen livestock sector resilience.
