Course Introduction

Algorithmic systems are now central to decision-making across finance, healthcare, employment, policing, and digital platforms. As reliance on automated systems increases, so does the need for robust legal frameworks ensuring accountability, fairness, and transparency in algorithmic decision-making processes.

This course provides a comprehensive legal and regulatory understanding of how automated decision-making systems are governed. It explores the responsibilities of institutions deploying algorithms and the legal implications of decisions made without direct human intervention.

Participants will examine how algorithmic decisions can produce bias, discrimination, and unintended harm, raising complex legal questions around liability and due process. The training provides structured approaches to managing these risks within compliance frameworks.

A strong focus is placed on regulatory developments globally, including AI governance laws, data protection rules, and sector-specific accountability requirements. Participants will understand how legal systems are evolving to address algorithmic governance challenges.

The course also explores transparency obligations, explainability standards, and audit requirements for automated systems. Participants learn how to ensure that algorithmic processes remain legally defensible and institutionally accountable.

Finally, emerging issues such as high-risk AI classification, automated enforcement systems, and real-time decision engines are analyzed to prepare participants for future regulatory and technological developments.
