Course Introduction

Artificial intelligence is transforming quantitative research by accelerating data preparation, statistical exploration, modelling, interpretation, visualisation, and reporting. This advanced course examines how generative AI, machine learning, intelligent analytical assistants, and automated statistical workflows can augment rigorous quantitative research while keeping methodological decisions under researcher control.

The programme provides an advanced exploration of AI-supported quantitative research from research problem formulation and study design through data collection, preparation, exploratory analysis, statistical modelling, inference, validation, and reporting. Participants learn how to combine established statistical methods with modern AI capabilities to handle complex datasets, automate repetitive analytical tasks, and develop more efficient and reproducible research workflows.

Participants will explore AI-assisted techniques for hypothesis development, variable selection, data quality assessment, exploratory data analysis, statistical testing, regression, multivariate analysis, forecasting, classification, clustering, and predictive modelling. Emphasis is placed on selecting appropriate analytical methods rather than allowing AI systems to determine statistical procedures without methodological scrutiny.

The course also addresses advanced analytical coding and automation. Participants learn how AI coding assistants can support statistical programming, data transformation, model development, debugging, documentation, visualisation, and analytical pipeline construction. They will develop techniques for reviewing AI-generated code and validating analytical outputs against statistical assumptions, research objectives, and reproducibility requirements.

A major focus is placed on interpreting statistical findings responsibly. Participants learn to use AI to support interpretation of coefficients, effect sizes, confidence intervals, model diagnostics, uncertainty, interactions, and predictive performance while identifying hallucinated explanations, inappropriate causal claims, statistical errors, and misleading narratives. The course reinforces the distinction between statistical association, prediction, and causal inference.

Responsible and trustworthy AI is integrated throughout the programme. Participants examine bias, data leakage, overfitting, privacy, model transparency, reproducibility, research integrity, automated decision risks, and responsible use of AI-generated statistical analysis. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to build advanced AI-powered quantitative research workflows that combine statistical rigour, analytical efficiency, reproducibility, and evidence-based reporting.
