Course Introduction
AI-generated survey data is emerging as a powerful approach for exploring research scenarios, testing analytical methods, developing questionnaires, conducting simulations, and preparing analytical workflows before sufficient real-world observations become available. The AI-Generated Survey Data and Simulation Methods Training Course provides participants with practical knowledge of how artificial intelligence can support the creation, simulation, assessment, and responsible use of synthetic survey datasets.
The course introduces the foundations of AI-generated survey data, including synthetic respondents, simulated survey responses, probabilistic sampling, population modelling, response generation, and scenario-based data simulation. Participants will explore how demographic characteristics, attitudes, preferences, behaviours, and contextual variables can be represented in simulated survey populations while recognizing the methodological limitations of using artificial responses as substitutes for empirical evidence.
Participants will examine methods for designing realistic survey simulations using statistical models, machine learning techniques, generative AI, and hybrid approaches. The training addresses how relationships between variables can be modelled, how response distributions can be controlled, and how assumptions about populations and respondent behaviour influence the resulting synthetic dataset. Particular attention is given to transparency around assumptions and the distinction between simulated evidence and observations collected from actual respondents.
A major component of the course focuses on validation and quality assessment. Participants will learn how to compare AI-generated survey data against known distributions, historical datasets, benchmark studies, or predefined population parameters. They will explore methods for evaluating response consistency, demographic representation, correlations, variability, subgroup behaviour, missingness, and other characteristics that determine whether simulated survey data is fit for a particular analytical or methodological purpose.
The course also examines practical applications of AI-generated survey data, including questionnaire testing, power analysis, statistical method development, scenario modelling, research planning, training analytical systems, and sensitivity analysis. Participants will learn how simulation can help researchers explore alternative assumptions and potential outcomes without presenting generated responses as actual public opinion or empirical findings.
Emerging issues involving large language models, AI personas, agent-based respondents, multimodal surveys, automated survey experimentation, synthetic populations, bias, privacy, reproducibility, and responsible research use are integrated throughout the course. By combining methodological principles, simulation techniques, validation procedures, and practical case studies, the training equips participants to use AI-generated survey data more rigorously, transparently, and responsibly.
