Course Introduction

Artificial intelligence, data systems, and emerging digital technologies are reshaping how societies design, deliver, and evaluate gender equality interventions. This course provides a comprehensive understanding of how these technologies can be leveraged to accelerate gender equality outcomes across sectors.

Despite the transformative potential of AI and data, gender biases often persist within algorithms, datasets, and digital systems, reinforcing inequality rather than reducing it. This course critically examines these risks while offering practical approaches to ethical and inclusive technology design.

Participants will explore how data-driven decision-making can improve policy formulation, program targeting, and resource allocation for gender equality initiatives. The course emphasizes the importance of high-quality, disaggregated, and intersectional data.

A strong focus is placed on emerging technologies such as machine learning, predictive analytics, blockchain, and digital identity systems, and how they can be used responsibly to support gender-responsive development.

The course also addresses governance frameworks, ethical AI principles, data protection laws, and digital rights to ensure that technological innovation aligns with human rights and inclusion principles.

By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to design, assess, and implement technology-driven gender equality interventions that are ethical, data-informed, and impactful.
