Course Introduction

The Agentic Research Workflows and Autonomous Evidence Analysis Training Course provides a forward-looking framework for understanding and applying AI agents to complex research, evidence synthesis, data analysis, and knowledge discovery. The course examines how agentic systems can move beyond simple question-and-answer interactions by planning tasks, using tools, processing information, coordinating multiple analytical steps, and supporting researchers through increasingly sophisticated evidence-analysis workflows.

Agentic research represents an important evolution in AI-assisted knowledge work because intelligent systems can potentially coordinate multiple stages of an investigation rather than performing isolated tasks. Participants explore how research agents can decompose objectives, identify relevant sources, retrieve and organize evidence, analyze information, compare findings, identify gaps, generate preliminary conclusions, and produce structured outputs. The course emphasizes that autonomous capabilities must operate within clearly defined objectives, permissions, validation rules, and human oversight mechanisms.

A central focus is placed on designing reliable agentic research workflows. Participants learn how to identify appropriate research tasks for autonomous or semi-autonomous execution, define agent roles, establish task sequences, provide contextual instructions, connect agents to approved tools and information sources, and create checkpoints for human review. They examine how multi-agent systems can divide complex research assignments into specialized activities such as evidence retrieval, source assessment, data extraction, analytical comparison, synthesis, and reporting.

The course explores autonomous evidence analysis across quantitative and qualitative research environments. Participants investigate how AI agents can process large collections of academic papers, reports, datasets, interviews, policy documents, survey responses, and other evidence sources. They learn how agents can classify information, extract relevant findings, compare evidence, identify contradictions, detect patterns, organize themes, and support evidence synthesis while recognizing the importance of source quality, methodological context, provenance, and researcher verification.

Responsible autonomy is a major component of the program. Participants examine risks associated with agentic research, including hallucinations, fabricated sources, incorrect evidence extraction, biased synthesis, unauthorized tool use, data leakage, prompt injection, uncontrolled task execution, model drift, and false confidence in autonomous conclusions. The course introduces practical approaches for permissions, sandboxing, source validation, audit trails, confidence assessment, human approval gates, exception handling, and continuous monitoring.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to conceptualize, design, evaluate, and govern agentic research workflows that use AI to accelerate evidence discovery and analysis while preserving research integrity and professional accountability. They will understand how to determine appropriate levels of autonomy, structure multi-step research processes, evaluate autonomous outputs, manage risks, and establish human-AI collaboration models that prepare research organizations for increasingly capable autonomous analytical systems.
