Course Introduction

Women’s leadership in social enterprise and cooperative development is increasingly recognized as a powerful driver of inclusive economic growth, community resilience, and sustainable development. This course is designed to strengthen the capacity of women leaders to create, manage, and scale social enterprises and cooperative ventures that generate both social impact and economic value.

The program explores how women-led enterprises can address structural inequalities while simultaneously building viable business models rooted in solidarity, shared ownership, and community empowerment. Participants will gain deep insight into governance systems that support cooperative success and social entrepreneurship ecosystems.

A strong emphasis is placed on leadership development, equipping participants with strategic, financial, and operational skills required to lead mission-driven organizations. The course integrates practical tools for business model design, resource mobilization, and stakeholder engagement in complex development environments.

Participants will also examine policy and institutional frameworks that influence social enterprise and cooperative development. This includes understanding regulatory environments, access to finance, gender-responsive economic policies, and enabling ecosystems that support women’s economic participation.

The program further highlights innovation and sustainability in social enterprises, focusing on how women leaders can leverage digital tools, partnerships, and impact measurement systems to scale solutions and maximize social returns.

By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to lead transformative social enterprises and cooperatives that strengthen livelihoods, promote gender equity, and contribute to inclusive and sustainable economic systems.
