Course Introduction

The Advanced Water Sector Strategic Policy Planning Course is designed to equip professionals with high-level skills in policy formulation, strategic planning, and implementation within the water sector. It focuses on building strong policy systems that guide sustainable water resource management, institutional development, and service delivery improvement.

Water sector policy environments are becoming increasingly complex due to climate change, urbanization, population growth, and competing water demands. This course provides participants with structured frameworks for developing robust, evidence-based policies that address both current and future water sector challenges effectively.

A core focus of the course is strategic policy planning, which links national development goals with water sector priorities. Participants will learn how to design, analyze, and implement policies that ensure equitable water access, efficient resource allocation, and long-term sector sustainability.

The course also emphasizes policy integration across multiple governance levels, including national, regional, and local institutions. Participants will explore how to harmonize policies across agencies and stakeholders to ensure coordinated planning, implementation, and monitoring of water sector initiatives.

In addition, the course integrates modern tools such as data-driven policy analysis, scenario planning, and impact assessment frameworks. These tools enable participants to design adaptive policies that respond effectively to changing environmental, economic, and social conditions in the water sector.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to develop strategic water sector policies, strengthen planning systems, and implement policy frameworks that promote sustainable, resilient, and efficient water resource management systems.
