Introduction

Qualitative data plays a crucial role in monitoring and evaluation (M&E), offering deep insights into program effectiveness, beneficiaries’ experiences, and contextual factors that shape development outcomes. However, managing and analyzing large volumes of qualitative data requires specialized tools and techniques. This intensive training course provides advanced, hands-on guidance on using NVivo for complex qualitative data analysis within M&E frameworks.

Participants will learn to use NVivo to organize, code, and analyze data from diverse sources such as interviews, focus group discussions, documents, social media, and open-ended survey responses. The course goes beyond basic functionality, emphasizing analytical depth, rigor, and methodological transparency in qualitative M&E studies.

The training covers advanced coding strategies, query design, mixed methods integration, and data visualization techniques to enhance interpretation and reporting. Participants will also explore how NVivo can be integrated into evaluation designs, from baseline assessments to impact evaluations, strengthening the credibility and usability of findings.

Through practical exercises and real-world case studies, learners will acquire skills to manage complex projects, apply automated coding tools, and interpret outputs using advanced NVivo features. Special attention will be given to linking qualitative insights with quantitative M&E indicators for richer, evidence-based decision-making.

Incorporating emerging trends, the course also explores innovations such as artificial intelligence-assisted qualitative coding, sentiment analysis, and the integration of NVivo with platforms like Excel, Power BI, and SurveyMonkey. These advanced capabilities enable evaluators to enhance efficiency and analytical sophistication in data-driven program management.

By the end of this course, participants will have the confidence to use NVivo as a strategic instrument for qualitative M&E research and reporting, improving the depth, validity, and impact of their evaluation findings.
